Interview: HORROR POPS

February 2004

Their fist LP is just out on Hellcat Rcds, and it represents certainly one of the major events of this beginning of year 2004. Formed in Copenhagen, and evolving mainly in the USA, the group, very sexy on stage, plays a modern psychobilly with various influences: Ska, Rock'n'roll, Punk, Garage, ... Hell Yeah !

 

1) Who are you? Could you describe each member in a few words (name, like, dislike, etc.)

Patricia: vocals/double bass
loves big instruments
hates small instruments

Kim Nekroman: guitar
loves building instruments
hates everything

Karsten: Guitar
loves the attention
hates bad make-up

Niedermeir: Drums
loves to sleep
hates to be busy

Mille: GoGo Dancer

2) How long have you been playing for? How many gigs?

The HorrorPops was formed in 96', I don't really have a count on actual gigs!

3) HORROR POPS : where does the name come from?

The whole point of Horror Pops getting together as a band was that we didn't want to commit to one style of music. There's a lot of freaks in uniforms dictating what rock'n'roll is all about! Ex: if u are a punkband u can onlyplay punk and look like a punk, Living End can't be accepted as a Psychoband cuz they don't look like one etc etc. We just wanted to play all thestyles of music we like!
We were asked when we first started out what kind of music we played and we replied with out really thinking about it ''Uhhmm... horror pop'' therefore the name Horror Pops.

4) Do you consider yourself as an American ban, or a Danish band?

Definately a danish band, since all members are danish!

5) What are the differences between the European audience and the American audience?

Age is the biggest difference!

6) One can fell a lot of different influences on "HELL YEAH". Which are the 5 bands who influenced you the most?

We have a rule not to mention other bands when we enter the rehearsel room. Between the 6 of us in the band we can not agree on any bands. We might have resemblance with other bands but that's not intentional.

7) Other Influences?

If u could get the Tasmanian devil in a russ meier movie it would be a big inspiration for HorrorPops

8) Can you describe your music?

horror...pop

9) Kim is also the double-bassist and the singer of the NEKROMANTIX. Will there be any inconvenient with that? How does he manage to play in the both bands?

We are all a tight group of friends in Nekromantix and HorrorPops, we even live together when we are in the US and when we are in Denmark we drink together. Cuz of that we try to work together so both bands gets the bestout of it.

10) Your first LP's just out on Hellcat Records. Tell us a little more about it.

In 2 words: HELL YEAH!!!!!!!
Hellcat records is one of the coolest labels in the world and signing with them is a dream come true. It is really true what other bands say about them, they are like being in a family, they respect u and take care of u!!!!

11) Last autumn, you've made a tour with DRAGSTRIP DEMONS, G-STRING, &the RIPMEN. How was it?

Drag queen strippers, FroG strings and Tripmen ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha . .HA!
Funtimes!! They are all really cool people and being on the road with them was a huge experience. We would like to tour with them
again.

12) You are going to tour in Europe, soon. Happy to be back home?

YEP!

13) You've been into an article in VOGUE magazine, about the Psychobilly. What does it mean? Is the psychobilly getting popular in America?

I don't think so, but I would love it to happen! If Psychobilly got big, it wouldn't die!

14) The drawings on your double-bass are your tatoos ?

Yep. But they are there for two reasons.. When Nekroman taught me to play the upright he believed I could only really play one if I also knew how to build one (a bit like karate kid), so some of the drawings are also there tohide mistakes I did in the wood...

15) What are the next projects of the band ?

To tour tour and more touring. The only reason for HorrorPops to make albums etc. is to be able to play more live shows. Our dreams is all about being on the road together.

16) Have you got something else to add ?

HorrorPops will rock your pants off.. hahaha!
